Residual Training Effects - Why You Should Train In Season

In the world of sports training, there's a well-established understanding of the importance of off-season training. It's a time to build strength, enhance skills, and lay the groundwork for the season ahead. But what about training during the season? It often gets overlooked, yet it holds significant benefits that can't be ignored.

One important thing to consider is residual training effects, particularly concerning max speed training like sprints and plyometrics. Studies show that the benefits of such training diminish after about five days on average. This matters because activities like sprinting and high-power output training produce vital motor control and neural adaptations that are only achieved through maximum effort.

However, in the dynamic environment of sports, athletes often don't reach their true maximum speed due to various factors like pace of play, changes in direction, or interactions with other players. Thus, ensuring regular exposure to max speed training becomes essential to maintain and enhance performance levels throughout the season.

At New Phila Barbell S&C, we prioritize incorporating max speed training into our sessions. Each training session kicks off with a comprehensive warm-up, including tissue elevation, dynamic stretching, and activation exercises, followed by dedicated time for sprints and plyometric work. This approach guarantees that athletes receive the necessary exposure to maximize their speed potential. Moreover, our training programs are scaled to individual needs, considering factors such as age, experience, and current stress levels.

For those interested, we offer specialized speed and agility training sessions every with Saturday morning, focusing solely on honing these critical skills.
